Van Bruggen wins NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award

CARROLLTON, Texas – Carson-Newman Director of Sports Medicine Mike Van Bruggen has was the National Athletic Trainers' Association's Athletic Trainer Service Award. 

The national award recognizes NATA  members for their exceptional contributions to  the athletic training profession and NATA.  It reflects decades of service and leadership at the state and local levels. 

Van Bruggen will be recognized at the 2016 NATA Convention in Baltimore in June. 

The award is the latest for Van Bruggen in his decorated 15-year tenure at Mossy Creek.

In 2012, Van Bruggen was honored as the Division II Athletic Trainer of the Year by the College and University Athletic Trainers' Committee of NATA.

Van Bruggen is an active volunteer on local, regional and national levels, serving as a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross. He currently serves as the Tennessee representative on the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association college and university athletic trainers committee. Van Bruggen also serves the Tennessee Athletic Trainers' Society (TATS) as a member of the Executive Committee. In 2009, TATS honored Mike with the Eugene Simith/Mickey O'Brien College Athletic Trainer of the Year award.
