ROCK HILL, S.C. – Six Carson-Newman football players have been presented postseason laurels from the South Atlantic Conference, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Safety Jerry Miclisse (Palm Bay, Fla.) and running back Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) represented the Eagles on the first team, while kicker Carson Wise (Blacksburg, Va.), punter Jonathan King (Knoxville, Tenn.), offensive lineman Austin Lewis (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and linebacker Lane Bloom (Knoxville, Tenn.) landed on the second team.
Miclisse represented Carson-Newman's third leading tackler with 55 stops and five tackles for loss. This is Miclisse's second time representing the Eagles on an all-conference team. Miclisse topped out with nine tackles in the season finale against Tusculum. He brought an interception 26 yards to the house in C-N's win over Mars Hill.
Wimbush piled up 941 yards rushing and nine touchdowns to lead the Eagles' veer-option attack. The sophomore tallied four 100-yard rushing performances on the year, including a career best 148 yards in the opener against Humboldt State. Wimbush closed the season with three straight 100-yard games.
Wise moved into the top five in field goals made in a career in Carson-Newman history and points made by a kicker. The sophomore connected on 8-of-13 field goals including a career long 49-yarder in the regular season finale against Tusculum.
King averaged 43.4 yards per punt in his first year in an Eagle jersey. The junior transfer ranked second in the SAC with that number. He set a school record with an 82-yard kick against North Greenville. He also had a 73-yard punt against Limestone which tied Dallas Cowboys punter Chris Jones for the second longest punt in C-N history. King had 12 kicks of 50 yards or longer on the year.
Lewis set a record on the Carson-Newman offensive line by grading out at an 83 in the Eagles' week two win over Saint Augustine's. He also moved into fourth place on the all-time knockdowns list and finished the year as the offensive line's leader in overall grade.
Bloom went down as Carson-Newman's leading tackler in 2016. The linebacker with 4.4 speed had 89 tackles, including a team-high 42 solo stops. His 11.5 tackles for loss registered as the top mark on the team and the 10th best total in the SAC. He recovered a pair of fumbles and had a pair of interceptions.
