MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Carson-Newman football alum Doug Belk has moved on from a position as a graduate assistant coach for Nick Saban at Alabama to a full-time cornerbacks coach for a Division I university in the northern portion of state of West Virginia.
Belk, a former quarterback, receiver and defensive back for the Eagles, joins Dana Holgorsen's staff at WVU.
The Valdosta, Ga.-native has a championship pedigree. He has worked or played for coaches who have won 12 national titles. He played for Ken Sparks, who won five with Belk helping the Eagles to an appearance in the 2009 semifinals. His first coaching staff with Valdosta State saw Belk taste his first national championship success with a 2012 crown (and a win over his alma mater in the quarterfinals).
Finally, Belk was a member of Saban's staff in 2015 that won a title over Clemson.
Belk wrapped up his playing days at Mossy Creek in 2010, as the program's quarterback. That year, he was second on the team in rushing with 877 yards and nine touchdowns. He completed passes for 721 yards and four scores.
The previous year he starred as a receiver, roping in 18 catches for 280 yards while starting all 14 games in the Eagles' run to the national semifinals. His top outing came against Campbellsville when he hauled in four passes for a career-high 82 yards and tied the school record for touchdown receptions in a game with three in a 38-10 win.
