Turner finalizes staff for 2018

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head football coach Mike Turner has announced the hiring of three graduate assistants to round out the Eagles' staff for the 2018 season.

"I don't think we could have found a stronger trio of young men," Turner said. "These three guys are going to be a blessing for this football program.  We're really excited to see what the future holds for them."

Turner has added Jordan Parsons to work with Carson-Newman's receivers and assistant coach Bubba White, Scott Green to assist with the linebackers and assistant coach Aaron Hutsell, and Logan Bookout, who joins the staff as a graduate assistant in charge of video, operations and graphics.

Parsons comes to Carson-Newman from Independence Community College where he was the assistant coach in charge of wide receivers as well as the director of football operations.  He helped Independence to a top-five ranking in the NJCCA and a conference title.

"He came to us on his own and wanted to be here," Turner said. "He got married and brought his wife here.  The kind of young man he is is wonderful. He'll make an immediate impact working with our receivers here."

Parsons played collegiately at Laverne before finishing his degree at Arizona State, graduating summa cum laude for the Sun Devils. .

Green makes his way to Mossy Creek from Liberty University where he was a student assistant for the defense for the Flames.

"Scott comes from football background with his father coaching in North Carolina," Turner said. "He has a great story about the Lord making changes in his life.  His work ethic is tremendous and his desire to go out to be a football coach and make a difference is really something special."

Prior to working with the Flames, Green played collegiately with stops at Western Carolina, Guilford and Greensboro College.

Finally, Bookout joins Carson-Newman after wrapping up his undergraduate degree at Tennessee.  Bookout worked with UT football as a recruiting assistant, assisting the coaching staff with film, analysis and research.

"He's an interesting story," Turner said. "He came in one day over the summer wanting to do an internship to finish up his undergrad at UT. We were excited for that, then we found out what he really wanted to be a part of, it was a no-brainer.  The skill and talent this young man has, it's phenomenal."

He also spent time as a college baseball scout and an operations and promotions intern with the Knoxville Ice Bears.
