Lee nabs TSWA Defensive Player of the Week honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Carson-Newman fox end Frank Lee (Orangeburg, S.C.) has garnered the first weekly laurel of his career – earning defensive player of the week honors from the Tennessee Sportswriter's Association following the Eagles' 37-0 win over Erskine Flying Fleet.

Lee is the first TSWA honoree since Rondrow Peebles garnered the recognition following the Eagles playoff victory at Bowie State in 2019.

The Orangeburg, S.C.-native tallied five tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He also notched a pass break up.

The 4.5 tackles for loss are the seventh-most in a single game in school history.

The individual effort was a part of a team effort that saw Carson-Newman collect its first shutout since 2016 and its first home shutout since 2006.

The Eagles limited Erskine to 214 yards of total offense and seven three-and-outs.  Of Erskine's 14 possessions, 12 were for five plays or fewer.

Lee and the rest of the Eagles will be in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mars Hill.
