COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The Carson-Newman men's golf team finished in
19th place in a loaded field at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational on
Tuesday at Green Island Country Club.
The Eagles carded a 296 in the second round for a two-day total of
591 (+23). The tournament field was one of the strongest C-N has
seen this season with 11 nationally ranked teams participating,
including four in the top five.
No. 3 Barry University turned in a 278 on Tuesday to claim first
place with a two-day total of 561 (-7). Eighth-ranked North Alabama
grabbed second place with a 571 (+3), followed by Barton (572), No.
20 Valdosta State (575), No. 21 Lander (575) and top-ranked Georgia
College (579).
C-N senior Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) had another solid
outing as he shot an even par 71 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for
sixth with a two-round total of 141 (-1).
Sophomore Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) carded a second-round 72
and finished in a tie for 16th with a 143 (+1). Freshman Gavin Hay
(Glasgow, Scotland) turned in a two-day total of 153, while John
Minor Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) and Eric Dowiatt (Ashland, Ohio)
finished with two-round totals of 154 and 160, respectively.
Georgia Southwestern's Craig Gibson fired a six-under par 65 in
the second round to win medalist honors with a two-day total of 137
(-5).
The Eagles return to action on Oct. 11-13 in the Queens
Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
