SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's men's golf team shot one of two sub-300 rounds during day two of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship at the Sevierville Country Club Monday en route to climbing to third and within four shots of the lead.

The Eagles are one of seven schools within three strokes of the leaders from Tusculum.

"We started in some real tough weather and struggled mightily early," Carson-Newman head men's golf coach Randy Wylie said. "But the kids really fought hard and nothing makes you more proud of a team than for them to battle back.  We're in a position to win and I couldn't be happier for our guys."

Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) made the biggest jump of the day, slicing 11 strokes off his round one tally to finish at one-over for day two.

"He was so determined to not let that one bad round ruin what could be his final round at C-N (because of a potential for cancellation due to thundershowers Tuesday)," Wyle said. "He had a remarkable comeback and in fact, he still left a few shots out there. If he doesn't three putt on a couple hole, he's looking at an under-par day."

Carson-Newman's Canadian Connection continued their constant play.  Both Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) and Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario) finished round two in the top 10.  Kim-Moss is sixth and Kennedy is tied for ninth.

Kim-Moss started inauspiciously.  He was four over through the first four holes. However, he finished two under over the final 14 for a 74 (+2).

Kennedy shined with birdies on eight and nine for a 75 (+3).

Corey Bray and Dalton Reese rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a 76 and an 81, respectively.  Bray's in 29th and Reese 33rd

Weather pending, the Eagles begin their final round at 10:45 Tuesday.
