Hall hails on second day of South/Southeast Regional

NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Results – Day Two

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Carson-Newman men's golf shot a stroke better during Tuesday's second round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship's South/Southeast Regional but fell to 12th on the leaderboard at Mission Inn Golf Club & Resort.

Senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) had the Eagles' low round of the day with a one-over 73 and moved up 13 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 26th.

"We had a similar result to yesterday; it was a good, smart round by Andrew," coach Randy Wylie said. "The other guys had too many doubles and too many three punts. The weather looks bad tomorrow; we're hoping to get in a good round and close strong. Go Eagles!"

On the front nine, Hall had just one bogey, which came on the par-four fourth, and tallied eight pars to make the turn at one-over. The senior opened his back nine with a birdie on the 10th and then followed suit on the par-five 14th. Bogeys on the 15th and 17th holes sent the first-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection to the clubhouse even on the back nine. Hall finished the round one-over.

Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) followed his even-par round on Monday with a six-over 78 during his second round. Headrick started out at two-over on his front nine, but a double bogey-bogey combination on the first two holes of the back nine hindered the Maryville, Tenn. native's round. He is tied for 34th.

Senior Jace DeVault (Bluff City, Tenn.) dropped two shots from his first round to shoot four-over 76 on Tuesday; the senior is tied for 61st after two rounds. DeVault began his round with seven consecutive pars before a double-bogey on the par-five eighth. Two consecutive pars on the ninth and 10th before a bogey-birdie combo on the 11th and 12th left the senior at one-over. The Bluff City, Tenn. native tallied bogeys on the 16th and 18th left DeVault at four-over.

Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) shot four-over during his front nine after bogeying the fifth and a triple-bogey on the eighth. After making the turn, the senior shot even-par and finished his round with a birdie on the 18th to shoot four-over 76. He is tied for 70th.

Junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) recovered a pair of strokes on Tuesday and finished the day at eight-over 80. Reese opened with a double-bogey on his first hole and then bogeyed the third hole as well. The Georgian finished the front nine at six-over; he then recorded seven consecutive pars before finishing the round with two bogeys in his final three holes. Reese is tied for 98th.

Lynn leads the South/Southeast Regional by three strokes over West Florida; Florida Southern, Saint Leo and Columbus State round out the top-five.

The final round of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional tees off on Wednesday morning in the Sunshine State. Live results are available on cneagles.com.
