Eagles in tie for sixth after day one of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

First Round Results

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – A six-over score of 294 landed defending champion Carson-Newman at a tie for sixth-place on the leaderboard after the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

Tom Forster (Oundle, England) was the only Eagle under par on Sunday, shooting one-under for a 71 score. He closed out the opening round at a tie for seventh.

Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot an even 72 in the first round, following closely behind Forster at a tie for 11th.

The junior tied for fourth-best on par 4 scoring on the day as he shot one-under on such holes for a 3.90 average.

Alex Hutson (Newport, Tenn.) opened his time at the tournament with a three-over score of 75, placing him at a tie for 337th.

Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.), the reigning champion in the event, finished Sunday with a card of 76, His four-over score was enough to place him in a tie for 45th on the leaderboard.

Participating as an individual, Jackson Tyler (Wilmington, Tenn.) was 11-over par on Sunday. His score of 83 placed him in a tie for 74th.

Closely behind Tyler was Will Hurt (Powell, Tenn.) who was +12 through the first 18 holes for a score of 84, tying at 79th.

Eastern Kentucky led the 14-team field through the first day as the only group to shoot under par, carding a 287 score that was one-below. The top-three was rounded out by a tie at second between Marshall and Austin Peay, who both shot +2 rounds of 270 on Sunday.

Alex Weiss of Marshall was the top performer on the day, carding a four-under score of 68. One stroke behind him at second was Eastern Kentucky's Edvin Lindgren. Following him was a four-way tie for third. Austin Peay's Michael Busse, Tennessee State's Scotty Hudson, Eastern Kentucky's Noah Combs and Belmont's Jack Uselton all scored 70 on Sunday, two shots under par.

The second day of the tournament will tee-off Monday at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start for another round of 18.
