ABERDEEN, Scotland – Despite falling 43 spots down the leaderboard on Tuesday, Tom Forster (Oundle, England) was still able to qualify for match play at the 123rd Amateur Championship at six-over par.
Forster was four-over in the second round at Royal Aberdeen, bringing his two-day total 147. He was 14 shots behind the field's leader in South Africa's Wilco Nienaber who closed out the qualifying rounds at an impressive eight-under par.
The Eagle golfer sat in a tie at 62nd with 15 other competitors by the end of the day as the remaining field was cut down from 288 to 77. Sitting at 76th out of those remaining, he will now move on to the match play portion on the championship that will close out the event over the next four days at Royal Aberdeen.

"Tom made the cut, barely, but he's in," head coach Randy Wylie said. "Great achievement for Carson-Newman golf!"
Tuesday began with an even showing through the front nine with a birdie and bogey before facing struggles in the back half. Four bogeys in the last six holes pushed the Eagle to a round of 75, causing him to flirt with the cut line for the rest of the day.
All of the matches that are played in the upcoming stage of the tournament will consist of a round of 18 holes with more holes being played as needed. The final, however, will be decided over 36 holes of play.
Forster is set to compete against France's Frederic Lacroix in the first round of match play on Wednesday at 8:39 a.m. British Summer Time. Those who win their first round matches will move on to the second round played later in the day. Live progress updates of match play will be provided by R&A.
