Third round spot secured by Forster at the Amateur

Match Play Day One Results

ABERDEEN, Scotland – After back-to-back match play rounds that saw Tom Forster (Oundle, England) battle back from slight deficits, the Carson-Newman golfer held on Wednesday to move forward to the next round at the 123rd Amateur Championship.

The first round of play saw Forster bounce back late to be squared with France's Frederic Lacroix at the end of 18, forcing the two to play extra holes. It only took one additional hole for Forster to win, placing him in the second round.

Facing Daniel Hillier in the round of 32, the two were squared for a majority of the first half of their match until Hillier went one up at the turn. That was enough to ignite a recovery run by Forster.

Forster followed by winning three holes to put him two up at the 12th. With three holes left, the Carson-Newman golfer was one up. He won another hole to defeat Hillier two up in 17 holes of play.

With 16 matches on deck for the third round, Forster is scheduled for the final faceoff of the round. He will tee-off against Norway's Viktor Hovland, the second-best golfer in the 36 holes of stroke play, at 9:45 a.m. British Summer Time, 4:45 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The winner will advance to the fourth round later in the day. The R&A will once again have live match play scoring for fans to follow.
