Full GCAA Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholar release
NORMAN, Okla. – Carson-Newman men's golfers Alex Hutson (Newport, Tenn.) and Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.) have landed spots on the 2018 edition of the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars list as announced by Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
This marks the first time since 2016 that a pair of Eagles received the honor. They are two of 126 Division II golfers to be lauded as All-Americans in the classroom.
This is the second All-America plaudit for Marcinelli who was also named a Google Cloud All-American this year, graduating a year early with a 4.00 GPA. He was also named the SAC Elite 20 recipient for men's golf. He competed in nine events on the season with his best finish coming at the South Atlantic Conference Championship with a +6 score for 12th. His best round of golf was a 67 in the second round of the Cougar Invitational.
As for Hutson, he made the travel team for eight of his nine events this year. He was in the top 20 in three of his outings including a third-place finish at the Walters State Fall Classic. His lowest round score of 71 was carded twice this year. His 3.26 cumulative GPA helped him receive this award.
Those eligible for the award must be an academic junior or senior and have competed in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 78.0 at the Division II level and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
