INDIANAPOLIS – With the regular season behind it, No. 14/15 Carson-Newman opens the postseason portion of the season as the second-seed in the initial NCAA Southeast Regional Ranking, as announced on Friday.
These official rankings will help build the South/Southeast Regional tournament scheduled for May 9-11 from the Mission Inn Resort and Club's El Campeon Course in Orlando, Fla., hosted by Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.
Teams that win their respective conference championship with receive automatic bids into each regional tournament. For each region, the top-10 teams will play along with four individuals who are not on the teams included. From there, each super regional will have a specific allotment of berths into the national championship finals. For the South/Southeast regional, seven teams and two individuals will advance.
Carson-Newman made the regional last season as the fifth-seed in the southeast just a year ago, its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in five seasons. The Eagles tied for ninth in the regional tournament for a second-straight year while Tom Forster (Northamptonshire, England) advanced to the NCAA Final as an individual. He concluded that tournament holding a share of 63rd.
Currently, Forster is seventh in the nation among Division II players, according to Golfstat. He leads the team with a 70.75 adjusted scoring average.
This latest ranking for the Orange and Blue comes on the heels of the regular-season finale at the Tennessee River Rumble where it finished second in the 20-team field. Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) was the top Eagle in the event for the second year in-a-row, tying for fourth. That finish helped C-N to obtain its best Golfstat ranking of the season at No. 14.

Three Eagles landed in the top-10 as No. 15/15 @cnmensgolf closed the regular season with a second-place showing at the Tennessee River Rumble.

This season, the Eagles hold an adjusted scoring average of 72.98 with a 3-10 record against top-25 teams. Their lone tournament win on the year came on Sept. 25 at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational.
C-N sits behind top-seeded Lincoln Memorial, ranked 10th in the Golfstat national poll and 11th in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll. Aside from the top two, just two other teams hailing from the South Atlantic Conference landed in the first batch of region rankings: eighth-seeded Newberry and 10th-seeded Queens.
The next event on the docket for the Eagles is the SAC Championship where they will be defending their league title for a second-straight season. The three-day event begins on April 14 at the Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.
