GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second-straight season, Anthony Marcinelli has achieved Google Cloud Academic All-American® status as a Men's At-Large first team selection, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
A year ago, he became the first player in program history to land on the list, also as a first-team pick. This latest accolade makes him the first men's golfer in South Atlantic Conference history to earn Academic All-American distinction twice in a career.
As for student-athletes at Carson-Newman, Marcinelli was joined by swimmers Paden Duke and Mary Northcutt, moving the athletic department to 23 Academic All-Americans in the past seven years, 39 since 1992.
Award winners are recognized by CoSIDA as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom.
The Knoxville, Tenn.-native competed in four events for the Orange and Blue this season, averaging a six-over clip of 77.6. His best outing of the year came at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, where he tied for 19th with a three-over 54-hole score of 219. He carded a season-low 72 twice in the event.
In the classroom, Marcinelli held a 4.0 GPA through his pursuit for a Master of Business Administration, giving him three degrees in four years. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2018 with a pair of degrees in Accounting and Finance/Economics, obtaining a 4.0 GPA in both studies, as well.
He made the Dean's List as Carson-Newman in all four years of his career while also receiving Gold Eagle Scholar status each year. He received numerous other academic achievement nods from Carson-Newman, alone, including being named an Outstanding Business Graduate, President's Academic Award, Male Academic Athlete of the Year in 2017-18 and the Academic Excellence Award for the men's golf team from 2016 to 2018. He was also a finalist for the SAC Scholar-Athlete award this season.
Marcinelli's back-to-back All-American honors bring him to six academic distinctions in his career, including Academic All-District status in 2018 and 2019, 2018 SAC Elite 20 Award and 2018 Srixion/Cleveland Golf All-America honors.
