Carson-Newman falls to Nova Southeastern 1-0

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (0-2) fell to the Nova Southeastern University Sharks (2-0) by a 1-0 score on Saturday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

A Carson-Newman "own goal" was the deciding score in the match. Goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel attempted to send the ball upfield in the thirteenth minute, but the ball hit a defender and bounced into the back of the net to put Nova Southeastern up 1-0, which would be the final score.

The Eagles had opportunities in the first period, but couldn't capitalize on six corner kick chances in the first 45 minutes.

The Eagles were outshot 9-7 in the match, and Le Gueval had four saves between the posts for Carson-Newman. Rurik Pereira led Carson-Newman with three shots during the match.

Carson-Newman will return to action next weekend in the Volunteer State, participating in the 2012 Stanno Tournament at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn. The Eagles will first face Shorter on Friday Sept. 7 at 5 p.m., before facing Lees-McRae on Saturday Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.
