Men’s soccer kicks off season on the road

BELMONT, N.C. – Carson-Newman begins its 2013 fall season against Belmont Abbey on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 4:00 pm.

In preseason matches, the Eagles went 1-0-1, both beating and tying the University of the Cumberlands. .

Belmont Abbey was picked fifth in the Conference Carolinas preseason coaches' poll.
 
Freshman Marius Staalby (Trondheim, Norway) is set to take the pitch after an impressive preseason including a hat trick in the first match against the Patriots.
 
Carson-Newman all-SAC preseason pick Joao Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has recovered from his hamstring injury and been cleared to play in tomorrow's match.
 
First team all-SAC goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) and midfielder Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) will factor prominently in the Eagles' plans for 2013. 
 
The Eagles open at home against Wingate on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.  If 1,000 fans attend that game, then C-N president Randall O'Brien will skydive within a week of the contest.
