Eagles hit the road to Lees McRae

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-1) heads to Banner Elk, N.C. to tangle with Lees McRae (0-2) for the Eagles' second match on the road of 2013 on Monday at 7 p.m.

 

Last year, C-N beat the Bobcats 2-0.Carson-Newman outshot the Bobcats 15 to 10 by the end of the match. Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.), since graduated, led the team in shots with four taken, three on net and one goal.

 

For his goal, Jolley received the ball from Matt Craine (Morristown, Tenn.) and shot it from 15 yards out to the far post. Matheus Bachi (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) had the first goal for the Eagles off a penalty kick. James Smith of Lees McRae took four shots with two on goal.

 

The Eagles are coming off a hard loss against Wingate. C-N's Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored in the 6th minute and had the Eagles up for most of the game. In the last minute of regular time, Peron Da Silva tied it up off a restart from an injury.

 

Wingate's second goal came from Alex Nelson in double overtime off a free kick after play restarted from the lights shutting off.

 

"It was unfortunate not only to lose a game like that, but to concede goals in the ways that we did," Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie said.

 

Lees McRae had a similar loss in its first match against Lenoir-Rhyne on Sept. 5. James Galvani of the Bobcats had ten shots with four on net, and one goal off a cross. By the end of regular play, the match was tied 1-1. LR was awarded a penalty kick in overtime to beat the Bobcats.
