Eagles defeated in double OT by no. 10 Wingate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-1) dropped a hard-fought match to no. 10 Wingate (3-0) after taking them to double overtime on Saturday night.

Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored the lone goal for the Eagles in the sixth minute of the first half. Lucas Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) sent a long ball up the right side of the pitch. Skoda outran his defender, cut in and placed the ball in the back of the net.

Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) led the Eagles in shots with four taken and two on net. Skoda had two shots, both of which were on goal.

For the Bulldogs, Peron Da Silva scored in the 89^th minute to tie up the match and send the game into overtime. With five minutes left in the second overtime, Alex Nelson scored the golden goal off a free kick to win the game for his team. "It was unfortunate not only to lose a game like that, but to concede goals in the ways that we did," Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie said.

Both of Wingate's goals came off bizarre circumstances.  Da Silva's goal came after a prolonged injury timeout while Nelson's followed a free kick after play resumed from the lights at McCown Field going off.

The Eagles head to Lees-McRae for their next match on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
