JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (4-2, 1-2 SAC) defeated Brevard (2-6, 0-3 SAC) with a score of 7-1, the most drastic win since the Eagles beat Newberry 6-0 in 2004.
"We got the win despite having a lot of injuries," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "We got lots of players on the score sheet; there were lots of players coming off the bench and getting goals for us."
Carson-Newman outshot the Tornados 25 to 4.
Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) led the Eagles in shots with 12 taken and six on net. He put two points of his own on the board for C-N, both assisted by Jake Fielder (Talbot, Tenn.), as well as an assist to Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway).
Welo also landed two balls in the back of the net including the first goal in the second minute of the game off a long ball from center defender Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Welo took five shots and placed three on frame.
Nico Noll scored in the fourth minute for the Eagles to give them a two-goal lead off another long ball from center back senior captain Matheus Bachi (Caxias do Sul, Brazil).
"We just sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the ride," Moodie said.
Kristian Speake (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom) put up yet another two goals on scoreboard for the Eagles. His first goal came in the 71st minute and was unassisted as he picked off a ball up the center of Brevard territory and took it to the back of the net.
Speake's second goal, and the seventh for C-N, arrived in the 76th minute off a one-time pass from freshman Jalen Goddard (Chattanooga, Tenn.).
Ryan McPhillips scored the lone goal, unassisted, for the Tornados in the 25th minute.
"The score suggests we were the better team, but the way we played emphasized that," Moodie said. "But there's always room to improve."
Carson-Newman heads back on the road Wednesday to play Young-Harris at 4:30 p.m.
