Eagles suffer devastating loss to SAC adversary Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-4, 2-3 SAC) dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Lincoln Memorial (5-4-1, 3-2-1 SAC) Wednesday afternoon.

"It was heartbreaking," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "Scoring goals is not the problem; it's just that we're conceding. They caught us three times while we were struggling and looking tired."

Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany) kicked off the scoring in the 25th minute for his second goal of the season. Jake Fielder (Talbott, Tenn.) claimed the assist tying him for fifth in the SAC for most assists.

Carson-Newman as a team leads the conference in assists and is eighth in the nation.

SAC Player of the Week Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) put up the second goal for the Eagles 42 seconds into second half by making a move around a defender for his eighth goal of the season assisted by Duncan Foster (Naphill, High Wycomb, United Kingdom). Frame is now tied for first in the conference for goals scored.

"We were uncontested in the first half," Moodie said. "We got two very, very well-worked goals."

Frame is third in the conference for assists and first in points. He leads the Eagles in shots, shots on goal and overall points with 40, 23 and 21 repsectively.

In the 59th minute of action, Pedro Villa put in the first goal for the Railsplitters, his fourth of the year. He dribbled from the right side to the top of the box and blasted a shot into the lower corner of the net.

"We went up two nil on the road," Moodie said. "You can't let a team like that come back."

Twenty minutes later, Mario Pinto tied up the match at twos with his seventh goal of 2013. Gus Riviera chipped the ball into the box where George Burne sent a quick pass to Pinto.

With eight minutes left of regular time, Pinto puts another one in the net to take the lead for LMU.

"Lincoln Memorial took it to us in the end," Moodie said, "and we didn't have anyone step up."

The Railsplitters outshot the Eagles 22 to 14. Pinto led LMU in shots having taken nine with four on net and two goals. Frame paved the way for C-N with three shots released, two on target and one goal.

Senior captain Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) had eight saves on the match. Le Guevel has compiled 45 saves this season tying him for first in the conference. He is fourth in the SAC with a save percentage of .763.

"This loss was our own fault," Moodie said. "Now we just hope to bounce back Saturday against Newberry."

Carson-Newman returns to McCown Field to take on conference opponent Newberry at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The match can be followed live at www.cneagles.com/live.
