C-N continues moving forward with home SAC match

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-4, 2-3 SAC) returns home to take on conference opponent Newberry (1-9-1, 1-4-1 SAC) Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles are coming off a hard loss to Lincoln Memorial last Wednesday. "We tell the kids that you're only as good as your last game," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "I think the boys definitely need to realize that."

Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany) opened the scoring in the 25th minute by finishing a ball sent in from winger Jake Fielder (Talbott, Tenn.) for his second goal of the season.

Forty-two seconds in to the second half, SAC Player of the Week Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) put C-N up by two. He received the ball from fullback Duncan Foster (Naphill, High Wycomb, United Kingdom), made a move around the defender and placed the ball in the back of the net.

Frame leads the Eagles in shots taken, shots on goal, goals, assists and overall points with 40, 23, 8, 5 and 21 respectively. He tops the conference in points and is third in assists.

Carson-Newman as a team leads the SAC in assists and is eighth in the nation.

In the last 32 minutes of play, Lincoln Memorial put up three goals on the Eagles to win the match.

"Respect is a piece of humble pie for them," Moodie said. "When you're up two nil, you can't give away goals like that."

Senior captain Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) made eight saves during the game. He has a total of 45 saves on the season tying him for first in the conference. He is fourth in the SAC with a save percentage of .763.

On Sept. 22, Newberry lost to LMU 4-0. The Wolves were outshot 22 to 15 while Nicholas Lucido tallied up five saves on the match.

"LMU is a tough place to go and win, it's a tough place to go and score," Moodie said. "It's just a tough place to get a result."

Newberry lost to Anderson 3-2 Wednesday. The Wolves went down a goal three minutes into the second half. Newberry's Tomas Garcia responded 21 seconds later for his first goal of the year while Lucas Ferreira claimed the assist.

Another 40 seconds later, Anderson cultivated the lead once again, and made it a two-goal difference in the 68th minute.

With two minutes left in the game, Jay Barajas capitalized on a throw in by Jalin Butler for Newberry's second goal, his first of the season.

"If we're looking to play for something this year," Moodie said, "we need to make a decision and a commitment to winning out the rest of these games."
