JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (6-4) hosts Milligan (3-9) tomorrow at 7:30 p.m for its last non-conference match of 2013.
"We are yet to play our best soccer," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "Hopefully we can rest up for conference play and not make too much hard work for ourselves."
The Eagles are coming off a big 2-1 win against conference foe Newberry last Saturday. Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) opened the scoring in the eighth minute of action off a pass from Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany).
Five minutes into the second half, Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) sent a long ball up from center defense. Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) flicked it on across the box for Welo to finish for his second goal of the match, fourth of the year.
Senior captain Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) had 12 saves on the match. He is first in the conference with 57 saves and second in save percentage with .792.
Last Wednesday, the Buffaloes defeated Truett-McConnell 1-0. Anthony Matekenya scored the game winning goal for Milligan in the 54th minute.
On Oct. 2, Milligan was defeated 2-0 by Tusculum, another member of the SAC.
"We are still trying to rest and recover," Moodie said. "It is a good opportunity for different players to get some minutes."
The Buffaloes defeated C-N 4-2 in 2011. Milligan had three goals within 18 minutes of action. Moise Leonce scored in the 8th minute to put up the first point. Nahom Tekle scored two goals in the 10th and 18th minutes.
Joao Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored the first goal for the Eagles from a corner kick taken by Tyson Adkinson, since graduated, 54 minutes into the game.
In the 76th minute, Chris Ochieng scored off a ball from Tekle to make it 4-1.
With eight minutes remaining in regular time, Jared Prall, since graduated, scored the second goal for C-N.
"We are excited to host Milligan," Moodie said. "We are looking to pick up our play at the tail end of the season."
