JEFFESON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (7-4) took down Milligan (3-10) under the lights on McCown Field Wednesday night.
Thirty minutes into first half, Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) sailed in a corner kick. Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) got on the end of it heading the ball back across the goal for senior captain Matheus Bachi (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) to redirect with his head into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
"We had a moment of brilliance," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "It was a great delivery by Sindre, everyone was in the right place and the ball went into the back of the net."
Frame put the Eagles up by two with 15 minutes left in the game. Jake Fielder (Talbott, Tenn.) threw the ball in to Frame who beat one defender and sent a left-footed shot into the lower left corner of the net.
"You have to be happy as a coach when you can execute," Moodie said, "because a lot of times in games that can be the deciding factor."
Frame leads the Eagles and the SAC in points with 25. He also leads the conference in assists with seven, and is tied for second in goals with nine. He is third in the SAC in overall shots taken with 50.
Fielder and Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) each have compiled four assists tying them for fifth in the conference.
"We looked very, very good," Moodie said. "We didn't let Milligan pose any threats."
The Eagles outshot the Buffaloes 21 to five. Dan Ball had nine saves on the match.
Carson-Newman keeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) leads the SAC in saves with 58. He is second with a save percentage of .795.
"For us, we just have to buckle down now," Moodie said. "We still have a lot to play for and we like to think we still have a shot at getting into the tournament and maybe winning some silverware."
Conference play resumes for the Eagles Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against Coker.
