Carson-Newman ropes in another 90th minute win on senior night

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (10-4, 6-3 SAC) celebrated senior night by taking down no. 11 Queens (11-3, 8-2 SAC) Saturday night.

"It was a good result," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "We worked hard and controlled most of the game."

The first goal came in the 21st minute with a one touch finish by Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany) off a through ball from Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway). Noll now has five goals on the year and is tied for second with Kristian Speake (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom) in points for C-N with 14.

After 82 minutes of action, the Royals tied up the match when Ryan King picked off a mishit clear at the top of the 18-yard box.

"We got a bit comfortable," Moodie said, "but we responded to the late goal by Queens very well."

In the final minute of the match, Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) scored his 13th goal of the season.

Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) sent a ball across the Royals' defensive third to Jake Fielder (Talbott, Tenn.). Fielder sent a one touch pass behind Queens' defensive line for a one-time finish by Frame.

Frame leads the SAC in points with 35 and assists with nine, and is second with 13 goals. He has been voted SAC Player of the Week twice during the 2013 season.

Carson-Newman outshot Queens 19 to six. Senior captain Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) made three saves during the match.

Le Guevel is second in the conference in both saves and save percentage with 67 and .798 respectively.

"We have to be happy moving into next week," Moodie said. "We just have to regain focus now and get ready for Wednesday."

The Eagles look to continue conference play at Tusculum Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
