Men’s soccer ranked no. 1 in the southeast region

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's men's soccer team has been tabbed number one in the Southeast Region in the regional rankings released today.

"We are ecstatic with the ranking and being number one," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "Hopefully we're not done."

The Eagles finished regular season on a seven game winning streak with a record of 12-4, 8-3 in the conference.

Fellow SAC members Wingate, Coker and Anderson are also ranked regionally.

Carson-Newman as a team led the SAC in total assists with 39, assists per game with 2.44, points per game with 7.19, total points with 115, and a save percentage of .800.

The Eagles are eighth in the nation in both total assists and assists per game.

"We will start training again tomorrow," Moodie said, "and we'll keep praying that things work out and we can keep playing."

Six Eagles were honored with All-Conference awards. Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom), Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) and Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) were all named to the first team. Matheus Bachi (Caxias do Sul, Brazil), Christopher Trejo (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) were honorable mention.

Frame also received Player of the Year. He led the SAC after regular season with 15 goals, three game winners, nine assists and 39 total points.

The Eagles are still hoping to make it into the national tournament.

"We hope God will be kind to us," Moodie said, "and keep us in the top six in the region for selection day on Monday."

The Eagles will find out their postseason fate Monday at 7 p.m. with the NCAA's selection show, available at ncaa.com.
