Three Eagles named to 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Men’s Soccer Team; Frame named Region Player of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman has landed three men's soccer players on the Daktronics All-Southeast Region first team and seen a striker named the region's player of the year.

Junior Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) was named the 2013 All-Southeast Region Player of the Year. He currently holds 18 goals including three game winners, 10 assists and 46 total points on the season.

"Obviously it's always nice to receive individual awards," Frame said on his honors, "but at the end of the day, it's a team effort."

The 18 goals tie Frame for seventh in the nation. He is tied for ninth in the nation with 10 assists.

"Every player has put everything into this season," Frame said, "and I believe we deserve our spot in the Final Four."

Frame's 18 goals are fifth most in a single season in Carson-Newman history. Ryan Williams holds the record with 23 from the 1995 campaign. His 46 points are the most in a single season for Carson-Newman this century and third most all-time.

"Individual honors are nice to look back on," Frame said, "and I'm proud to receive them, especially representing Carson-Newman. But a national championship to share with the team would mean a lot more to me."

Frame was also named SAC Player of the Year. Throughout the course of the season, Frame received three Player of the Week awards. He was Carson-Newman's first men's soccer player of the week honoree since 2010.

"I have to thank the players, Coach Moodie, and assistants Francois and Kenny for all they've done this season," Frame said. "Now let's go win the National Championship!"

Joining Frame on the first team is senior captain and goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France). "Of course it's nice to be part of this selected team," Le Guevel said on his award, "but I just want to share this with my partners because having three players selected to the regional team is recognizes all the hard work everybody put into every practice."

Le Guevel has 89 saves on the season– seventh most in C-N history. On Friday, he came up with two huge saves in the Eagles' penalty kick shootout against Lander to advance his team to the Elite Eight.

"I would especially like to share this honor with the other three keepers and our goalkeeper coach Francois," Le Guevel said. "This honor is extra motivation and will push me to work more and more; soccer is not finality."

Sophomore Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) was also named to the All-Southeast Region first team. "It's always exciting to be recognized individually," Welo said on his award, "but what really matters is what we achieve as a team. The personal awards we get come as a result of the hard work all the lads put down together."

Welo has provided six goals including two game winners, seven assists and 19 points this season. Welo scored against conference rival Tusculum less than a minute into overtime to win the game.

"The number one target is always to win something as a team," Welo said, "and we have the opportunity to do that next week in Georgia."

The Eagles have advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA DII National Tournament for the first time in program history. C-N will play Simon Fraser Dec. 5 in the Final Four in Evans, Ga. The time of the match is to be announced.
