Moodie named Men’s Soccer Fall 2013 CaptainU Coach of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.  – Carson-Newman's head soccer coach Richard Moodie was hand-selected to be the DII 2013 Coach of the Year by the CaptainU committee in San Francisco, Ca. Monday afternoon.

"It is great recognition," Moodie said, "and exposure for the university."

Moodie has been the men's soccer coach at Carson-Newman for three years. The 2013 fall season was Moodie's second season as the head coach of both the men's and women's teams.

"All these awards and individual accolades for coaches and players couldn't have been done without the team effort," Moodie said, "so all credit goes to them."

Last fall, Moodie and his team made C-N history by advancing to the national finals; The Lads, unranked going into the tournament, finished second in the nation.

The previous school record was set when Moodie was a player at C-N. That year, the Eagles advanced to the Elite Eight in 2005.

"I'm just thankful to be part of something like Carson-Newman soccer," Moodie said, "and I'm looking forward to the future of the program."
