The Lads wrap up spring season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's soccer team recently closed out its 2014 spring season with a 3-2 record.

"This was one of the most competitive spring schedules," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said, "that we have had over the last few years."

This spring, the Lads faced teams at every level including NAIA, NCAA Divisions I, II and III, and MPSL. "The players rose to the challenge," Moodie said.

Sophomore Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) and freshman Jalen Goddard (Chattanooga, Tenn.) proved exceedingly influential on the field. "Sindre found his knack for scoring again this spring," Moodie said, "and Jalen was a solid contributor in every match."

Dominik Gronwald (Waabs, Germany) is a new addition to the squad this semester. "Dominik played some very exciting minutes for us," Moodie said, "and will be a major contributor for us next year."

The team graduates four starters this term; among the Lads not returning are captains Trystan Dafydd (Wales), Rumwald Le Guevel (France), and Matheus Bachi (Brazil), and fullback Christopher Trejo (Guatemala).

"The team played very well in every competition," Moodie said. "It was good to see how the team would perform without the graduating seniors."

Eight players have signed for the fall 2014 season with potential additional signees pending. "We are very excited for the upcoming fall season with what we saw this spring," Moodie said, "as the boys continue to play attractive soccer and excel defensively."

This fall, the Eagles have 11 home matches scheduled during regular season. Additionally, a two-story field house is currently under construction on the sidelines of McCown Field.

"The future looks bright," Moodie said, "for Carson-Newman soccer."
