Soccer field house construction nearing completion

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. –McCown Field, home to Carson-Newman's men's and women's soccer teams, is seeing the addition of a two story field house due to be completed prior to the first match of the upcoming fall season on Aug. 20.

"The recent weather has set us back," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "We're just putting the final touches on the outside of the facility. It will be ready in the fall for sure."

The first floor of the field house will serve as a game day locker room. The top floor will be equipped with all of the media necessities.

"The bottom floor will also play home to our Hall of Fame," Coach Moodie said. "More importantly, building this facility will allow us to record practices and have a user-friendly area for media relations."

The facility was funded by a generous donation from the Edwards family. Jason Edwards, the father of C-N women's soccer captain Sidnee, was a huge supporter of Carson-Newman soccer.

"The way in which we received this facility is very special," Coach Moodie said. "The Edwards family has opened the door for lots of opportunities."

Edwards passed away on Aug. 25, 2013; his love and support for the school and the game will live on through the field house. "We are privileged," Coach Moodie said, "to be part of such a big development."

The Eagles host Tennessee Wesleyan for a preseason scrimmage on Aug. 20, the women at 5 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. The women's first regular season home match is on Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. against Young Harris. The men open their home season against King on Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
