JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's soccer team has added four more players to its 2014 roster.
Alexander White, son to Donald and Jacqueline White, is a 6'0" midfielder from Glasgow, Scotland. White is the program's first Scottish player since head coach Richard Moodie was a player himself.
White graduated from Eastbank Academy in 2010. While there, White's team was a Glasgow Cup semifinalist, and he was named a Glasgow select player. He also played golf and basketball. From there, White went on to attend the University of Strathclyde.
Curtis Walker is a 5'5" recruit from Mount Vernon, New York that can play as both striker and winger. He is the son of Deneen Robinson.
Walker attended Good Hope Country Day high school where he participated in cross country, volleyball and soccer. Under Coach Worde, Walker's soccer team won the SCIAA championships in 2011, 2013 and 2014. In 2011, Walker earned Varsity B MVP. He graduated in 2014.
Franklin University also recruited Walker, but he chose Carson-Newman for its small campus and friendly southern vibes. He plans to major in exercise science.
Samuel Amure, son of Mrs. O Craig, is a 6'3" recruit from London that plays center back, center midfield and striker.
Amure attended St. Thomas More where he played both soccer and futsal before graduating in 2009. While there, both his soccer and futsal teams won the league championship. For futsal, the team reached the semifinals of the BUCS cup, the national championship. Amure's soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Norfolk Senior Cup. After high school, Amure attended the University of East Anglia.
Amure was also recruited by the American International College. He chose Carson-Newman for its Christian atmosphere and high standards. He will major in accounting and finance.
Aiden McGovern, son of Podraig and Siobhan McGovern, is a 6'0" defenseman from Portlaoise, Ireland.
McGovern attended St. Mary's C.B.S. where he participated in soccer, Gaelic football and hurling. For the 2011-12 season, he was dubbed the Portlaoise C.B.S. Sportsman of the Year. He was a four year member of the soccer team and earned the captain title for his senior season. He also won the 2009 Gaelic Footballer of the Year Under 14.
His soccer team won the Midland Region title twice and was Champions League runners-up. His Gaelic football team won thrice the South Leinster championship. In 2009, McGovern's hurling team won the Under 14 South Leinster championship.
McGovern graduated in 2012 and went on to attend Longwood University. He has chose Carson-Newman as his next place of study because of the soccer team's history of success, and its ambition to achieve even more in the future. He plans to major in business.
The Lads' 2014 season kicks off August 20 with a preseason scrimmage at home against Tennessee Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m.
