JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The South Atlantic Conference has released its preseason men's All-Conference teams and two players from Carson-Newman have been named to the squads.
Senior midfielder Tom Read made the first-team for the second-straight year. Last season, he scored five goals for C-N and ranked No. 6 in the nation with 12 assists, a team and conference-leading total, as well. He was the only Eagle to start all 17 contests.
For the All-SAC second-team, the Eagles are represented by sophomore goalkeeper Joe Boyd. The Nottingham, England native was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention at the conclusion of last season. He played in the first 15 games for C-N before missing the final two due to an injury. He earned three clean sheets against Flagler, Newberry and King (Tenn.) and ended the season in the top-five for saves, save percentage, goals against and goals-against average in the SAC.
The men's soccer team will kick off its season on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a visit to North Greenville. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
