Former Eagle Foster joins men's coaching staff

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Duncan Foster is the newest addition to the coaching staff for the men's soccer program at Carson-Newman, serving as a volunteer assistant coach as announced Wednesday by head coach Stephen Lyons.

"I'm definitely excited to have him on board since he brings such a well-rounded wealth of knowledge to the program," Lyons said. "He has a well-balanced personality that just fits with the coaching staff that we already have."

The High Wycombe, United Kingdom native returns to the Eagles team for the first time since he graduated in 2015. While pursuing a Masters of Business Administration, he played on a C-N squad that competed for a NCAA National Championship in 2013, starting in all 23 games that season. He was named a Capital One First Team All-District Academic Athlete the following year. After being named to a preseason All-Conference Second-Team member in 2014, a knee injury cut his senior season short, allowing him to assist the team with strength and conditioning.

"His experience has helped him to already connect with a few of the guys and gain respect from the players on the team," Lyons mentioned.

Before his time as a part of the Carson-Newman program, Foster received a Bachelor of Science in Sport Science at Brunel University in London, England, where he was also a team captain and coach. He also coached the Wycombe Wanderers and Fulham while studying. Upon graduating, he worked with Reading FC as a member of the sport science/strength and conditioning staff for the 2012-13 season.

Foster brings substantial assistant coaching experience at various levels, most recently with the National Premier Soccer League's Myrtle Beach Mutiny and Knoxville Force teams in 2015 and 2016-17, respectively. He also served as an assistant coach with the Tennessee Olympic Development Program from 2015-16.

He is currently a Masters student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, studying Kinesiology, specializing in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior. Along with coaching the Eagles, he is also working as a graduate research assistant within his field of study.
