CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bill Hadam and Quinton Carey scored their first goals of the season as Carson-Newman handed Queens its first home loss of the season with a 3-1 win in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday night at Dickson Field.
"Very good team performance against a quality Queens team," coach Stephen Lyons said. "really good to see players stepping up at a big stage in the season. I thought players in all departments showed good quality and put in gutsy efforts to get a result."
The Eagles (7-3-1, 3-2-1 SAC) end a three-match winless skid with the victory, marking their first conference win since Sept. 22. This is their first win at Queens (7-3-1, 4-2 SAC) since Oct. 25, 2014, tying the overall series record 5-5-1.
For the Royals, this is the first loss they have faced at home since Oct. 21, 2017 and their second loss in as many games.
C-N is now 3-1 in road games this season with two of those wins coming against conference opponents, its first coming in its last road match at Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 19.
Bill Hadam (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the Eagles on the board early in the contest with a helping hand from Kensho Yoshikoshi (Japan) in the 13th minute. It was the freshman's first season and career goal.

In the 43rd minute, Queens' Oemer Okyar received his second yellow card of the night, forcing him to leave the match as it was booked as a red card, leaving his team to just 10 men for the rest of the match. This gave the Eagles an extra man advantage for a second time this season.
Quinton Carey (Edmond, Okla.) extended Carson-Newman's lead in the 70th minute with a long shot from over 18-yard out that sailed past the Royals' goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk to put C-N up 2-0 with what would eventually be the game winner. It was also the junior's first goal of the season.
Minutes later, Kieran Gore answered with a header off of a throw-in from Edmundo Robinson. His look got right past a falling Twan Verweij (Utrecht, Netherlands), cutting Carson-Newman's lead in half at 2-1.
Carson-Newman would not let up as Jonny Le Quesne (Jersey, Channel Islands) lined up for a set piece. His shot found the head of Yoshikoshi who headed it in from 15-yards out to put the Eagles up 3-1. It was the junior's second goal of the season, both coming on headers.
This was the second-straight match in which Queens allowed a trio of goals, both matches resulting in losses. Saturday was also the third time this season the team was held to just one goal in a contest.
The Royals led the shot tally 13-10 but Carson-Newman had the edge when it came to shots falling on target, 8-6. C-N lined up for a season-tying low two corner kicks, both coming in the second half.
Hadam took a team-high three shots on the night with two landing on frame as he had his top outing of the season. His performance marked the first time since Sept. 29 that a Carson-Newman player had multiple shots land on goal, that day also being the team's last win before Saturday night. He and Ashley Kelynack (High Wycombe, England) were the only Eagles to record multiple shots.
Robinson led Queens with seven shots, three on goal and an assist.
Both Verweij and Kalk made five saves on the night.
A total of 25 fouls were whistled throughout the contest, 11 of those on the Eagles.
