INDIANAPOLIS – After a draw with Mars Hill and a loss at Wingate last week, Carson-Newman fell to seventh in the Southeast Region rankings, as released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon.

These rankings will be used to make the NCAA Tournament field in November. The top two teams in each region will host first and second round competition during the second weekend of November with the third and quarterfinal rounds the following weekend.

Teams will be vying for a chance to make it to the National Quarterfinals in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Eagles (7-4-2, 3-3-2 South Atlantic Conference) have posted a 7-4-2 record against teams from the region. They are one of four SAC teams represented in the list.

Second-ranked Young Harris remains in the lead of the region, still without a blemish on its record at 13-0. It is the only undefeated team left in the Southeast region and one of two teams left in the nation to still have a completely perfect record, the other being No. 1 Simon Fraser at 14-0.

Second in the region is No. 7 Lander at 11-1-2 both overall and against the region. The Eagles fell to the Bearcats on Oct. 10 in a 2-1 decision.

No. 22 Limestone stays at third with a 10-3 tilt after a pair of wins this past week followed by Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 4. The Bears have posted a 9-4 record with one of their wins coming over Carson-Newman back on Sept. 12, 1-0. They are currently enjoying a three-match winning streak and still lead the SAC table with 21 points, just three points ahead of Queens and Wingate who are tied for second.

Queens moved up one spot this week thanks to back-to-back wins over Wingate and Newberry following a 3-1 loss to C-N on Oct. 13. The Royals are currently 9-3-1 on the season.

Chowan made its debut in the region rankings with a spot at sixth. It has gone 9-2-2 this season with the same record against the region. The Hawks have not lost a match since a 2-1 overtime loss to Mount Olive on Oct. 3. Since then, they won four-straight, tied with Lander on Oct. 17 and then defeated Emmanuel. Four of their last five wins have been shutouts.

Just behind Carson-Newman is Lincoln Memorial at eighth with a 7-3-3 clip after a win over Tusculum and a draw with Coker this past week. The Eagles defeated the Railsplitters on Sept. 19, 3-2.

Updated rankings will be released each Wednesday through the end of October leading up to the national selection show on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. EDT.

The Eagles continue to keep their playoff hopes alive with a Wednesday contest at Newberry before closing out the regular season at home on Saturday against Catawba. That senior night match will begin at 7:30 p.m. from McCown Field. Those who cannot be in attendance can stream a live broadcast from the Eagle Sports Network at cneagles.com/live.
