Verweij seizes Academic All-District honor

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Thanks to his academic success, Twan Verweij has been tabbed a Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Soccer first-team selection, as announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

This is the second-consecutive year an Eagle has received the honor and the first for Verweij.

The award winners are recognized by CoSIDA as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. He is one of the 11 players lauded from NCAA Division II's third district which includes the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.

The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Utrecht, Netherlands native holds a 3.88 GPA in his pursuit of a Masters of Business Administration. He was named a Platinum Eagle Scholar back in September with a 4.00 through his first year at Carson-Newman.

On the pitch, the senior closed out his career starting in all 17 games for C-N this season with 62 saves and 20 goals against. Through two seasons at Mossy Creek, he holds the third-most shutouts in program history at 10.1, most of those came in his first year with the Eagles when he notched 8.1. One of those came in a 1-0 win over No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne on Sept. 20, 2017 His 114 career saves are eighth in program history and 17 career wins are enough for fifth-most in program history. He went 17-12-4 overall in two years.

His placement on the first team advances him to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced in early December.
