NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following a week that saw him net two goals, Carson-Newman's Sofian Maghouz has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week, as announced on Wednesday.

The London, England native launched three shots on the week with his two goals, including a game-winner.

Maghouz posted both of his goals in the 2-1 win over Queens on Saturday night at McCown Field. His first goal came in the 19th minute on a cross in the box by Evan Harr (Bristol, Tenn.). His shot landed on the noggin of Maghouz and into the back right of the net to put C-N up by one.

After Queens answered to tie the match in the 62nd minute, Maghouz stepped up with his second game-winning goal in his career with just five minutes left in the match. A pass from just outside the left portion of the 18-yard box made its way inside and just past the open foot of Silva to find Maghouz. The freshman sent in a look to the inner right side of the left post for the game-winner.

The freshman is now the fourth Eagle this season to record a multiple-goal game but the third to score a pair in one match.

Maghouz is the second Eagle this season to be named a player of the week by the TSWA. Tobias Solem Karlsen (Kongsvinger, Norway) received laurels on Sept. 10.

Maghouz and the Eagles take on a steep South Atlantic Conference match this weekend with a trip to Coker. That match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. from the Coker Athletic Field in Hartsville, S.C.
