GLASGOW, SCOTLAND – Incoming freshman swimmer Robert Griswold recently competed in the International Paralympic Committee's World Championship in Glasgow, Scotland and returned to the United States with a bronze medal in hand.
The Freehold, N.J. placed third in the 400 Free with a time of 4:36.26, which set a new American record. Griswold's performance at the World Championships puts in him contention for the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro next August.
"What a fantastic swim! His hard work has surely paid off. Robert is an exemplary example of the Carson-Newman swimming values, commitment, hard work, integrity and attitude. The next step is preparing for conference and Rio 2016," swim coach Paige McCord said.
Griswold totaled six top-eight finishes at the World Championships and four fourth-place finishes. Griswold competed in the 200 Individual Medley, 50 Free, 100 Fly and 100 Back as well as other events.
The United States team finished third in the medal count behind Russia and Ukraine.
Griswold competes with cerebral palsy. He was born with dislocated hips and knees, which limits his use of legs in the pool.
He and the rest of the Eagles will kick off the season on September 24th at the Triple Splash at Maddox Pool.
