Figueiredo claims BMC Swimmer of the Week honor

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – For the second week, one of Carson-Newman's student athletes has claimed one of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference's Swimmer of the Week awards, as Marcelo Figueiredo (Porto Alegre, Brazil) claimed the honor this week.

On Friday, Figueiredo helped his team to a 328.50-72.50 combined victory over King (Tenn.) by collecting three victories. The sophomore started off the night by taking the first two individual events on the men's side, the 1000 free, with a time of 9:51.78, and the 200 free, swimming a time of 1:44.98. Later that night, the native of Brazil blew away the field in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:45.82, seven seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Figueiredo is the first Eagle to pick up three individual victories in a meet this season. Overall, he has five wins to his credit this fall.

Figueiredo is C-N's first male swimmer to be named swimmer of the week this season, but Margaret Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) did claim the award on the female side last week.

Figueiredo, Stansberry and the rest of the swim team return to action on November 17th when they travel to the University of Cincinnati for the Mid-Season Invite at Keating Aquatics Center.
