Eagles pick up six wins in final tuneup before nationals
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman swim team returned to Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday as some of the team’s swimmers attempted to take advantage of their final opportunity to qualify for nationals during the Royal Open, which was held inside of the Levine Center on the campus of Queens (N.C.) College.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman swim team returned to Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday as some of the team's swimmers attempted to take advantage of their final opportunity to qualify for nationals during the Royal Open, which was held inside of the Levine Center on the campus of Queens (N.C.) College.
A number of C-N's student-athletes who were competing in Charlotte used the opportunity to add to their 2016-17 win total. Seth Hughes (Kingston, Tenn.) grabbed a pair of victories, first in the 100 free with a time of 45.24 and later in the 100 back, which he swam in 49.69.
Lisa Postma (Leiden, Holland) also emerged victorious twice, first in the 100 free, clocking in at 51.31, and again in the 50 free, finishing in 23.50.
Marcelo Figueiredo (Porto Alegre, Brazil) earned win No. 8 this season by completing the 500 free in 4:31.27. Andrei Roman's (Medias, Romania) time of 55.28 in the 100 breast was good enough to earn him the top spot. Lexy Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) swam to the front of the field in the 200 fly, hitting the wall in 2:03.88 and Jon Lancaster (Ringgold, Ga.) continued his outstanding season by triumphing in the 400 IM in 3:56.37.
All that is left for the Eagles now is to wait and see which swimmers are selected for the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, which are set to be held in Birmingham, Ala. from March 8th – 11th. For updates on the program, visit cneagles.com and follow @cnatheltics on Twitter.
