Four Men's Swimmers garner Scholar All-America Status from CSCAA

PHILADELPHIA - Four Carson-Newman men's swimmers are among a record 997 swimmers and divers to receive recognition as members of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team.   

Seth Hughes (Kingston, Tenn.), Jon Lancaster (Ringgold, Ga.) and Pijus Mackevicius (Kaunus, Lithuania) all receieved the accolade.  Marcelo Figueiredo (Porto Alegre, Brazil) was noted with honorable mention Scholar All-America status. 

The selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

In addition to the 997 first-team selections, 954 students were named as Honorable Mention selections.  These students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.

Hughes was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American, achieving the feat in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay.  He Achieved All-BMC honors as part of three relay teams: the 200 medley, 400 medley and 200 free relay.

Lancaster also earned Honorable Mention All-American in the 200 free relay. He captured the Male Swimmer of the Meet award at the BMC Championships, where he set a school record in the 400 I.M. with a time of 3:57.12 and was also an all-conference selection in the 400 I.M., the 200 I.M. and the 1000 free. 

Mackevicius garnered  Honorable Mention All-American honors in the 200 medley relay. He racked up all-BMC honors in the 200 and 400 medley relays and helped the Eagles set new program records in both races.

Meanwhile, Figueiredo was All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference in the 1000 free. He shatttered two school records at the Bearcats Midseason Invitational, posting a time of 15:51.46 in the 1650 free and 4:30.45 in the 500 free, both of which respresented new C-N bests. He totaled eight wins during the season, four of which came in the 500 free, also took home three victories in the 1000 free and one in the 200 free.
