Full Results at 2017 NSU Shark Invitational
Fort Lauderdale, FL – The Carson-Newman men's swim team collected a third-place finish after the second and final day of the 2017 NSU Shark Invitational. Day two brought forth two sessions, one at 9:30 a.m. with the final timed session at 2:00 p.m.
The team competed in 12 total events on the day, with SAC foe Wingate just eight points ahead of the Eagles. The University of Indianapolis took home first-place.
C-N started the day immediately earning a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad of Seth Hughes, Andrei Roman, Ivo Kunzle and Jonny Goss recorded a time of 1:31.58.
"I am really pleased again with the performance, and I think the overall points are close for the team standings," Coach Jordan Taylor mentioned. "Great first session, hoping for more of the same this afternoon."
Notable times in the morning individual events include junior Andrei Roman who had the best time in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.20.
Sophomore Caleb Howell claimed second-place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:06.12. The time is good enough for the second-best time in the country in the IM event. Jon Lancaster also finished in third in the same event with a time of 4:08.89.
Marcelo Figueiredo put together a time of in the 1000-yard freestyle for a second-place finish at 9:31.82, claiming another top-three national time, the third-time he has done so in an event already in 2017.
The Eagles had three swimmers in Figueiredo, Lancaster and Howell finish inside the top-6 for points over the two-day period.
Carson-Newman ended the invitational with a total of 539.5 points, topping host school Nova Southeastern who had 497.5 points in fourth-place.
"Everyone was great today," added Taylor. "Really pleased with our effort against some of the top swimmers and teams in the country.
