KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman continued its impressive showing in the University of Tennessee Mid-Season Invitational on Friday evening.

Following day one results, both men's and women's teams held sixth place facing off against D1 opponents in Duke, North Carolina, Tennessee, Denver, Penn and Marshall.

One the women's side, the relays proved to be strong once again as the 200-yard medley 'B' team of Ksenia Naydenova, Alex Nuyianes, Laurel Sankowski and Mary Northcutt all swam lifetime bests individually.

C-N was leaped by Marshall in day two as the Thundering Herd hold 110 points while the Eagles have 91.

The 'A' team of Margaret Stansberry, Maggie Melhorn, Elly Culp and Lisa Postma narrowly missed the school record with a season-best time of 1:43.65. The event time ranks 5th in the country.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Melhorn, Stansberry, Postma and Lexy Raybon also swam a season-best in the event with a time of 7:33.33 which currently sits 5th in the nation.

Stansberry, swimming in front of her hometown, appeared in the 'A' final for the 200-yard freestyle. The Knoxville, Tenn. native just missed a school record but set a season-best and 2nd ranked time in the country at 1:48.88 beating out two swimmers from UNC and Duke in the process.

CJ Jensen swam a lifetime best of 4:28.76 in the 400-yard individual medley, just missing the school record by .12 seconds. Her time currently checks in at 8th in the country.

Melhorn (Knoxville, Tenn.) made the 'B' final swimming a seasons-best time of 1:02.70. The time is good for sixth in the nation.

The men's side provided another standout day for the Eagles, despite its same spot at No. 6 with 138 points.

For the 400-yard individual medley, Jon Lancaster made the 'B' final and swam a time of 3:58 which was good for 11th in the country. Caleb Howell finished 5th in the same event in the 'A' final with a school record time of 3:54. Howell's time ranks 4th in all of Division II.

Ivo Kunzle made the 'C' final after a lifetime best time of 49.94 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Nikola Tadic (1:39.43), Marcelo Figueiredo (1:38.74) and Chad Andoljsek (1:40.91) took home first, second and third-place in the 'C' final as they all recorded lifetime best swims. Tadic, a freshman native of Croatia, missed the school record by .5 seconds.

Junior Andrei Roman finished in seventh in the 'A' final of the 100-yard breaststroke at 54:96. It was his second-fastest time ever and it put Roman 9th in the country. Both Howell (57:76) and Josh Terrell (57.42) made the 'C' final with season-best times.

Seth Hughes made the 'B' final in the 100-yard backstroke recording a time of 49.85 marking his second-best time ever.

With a time of 6:40.77 in the 800-yard freestyle relay, Lancaster, Tadic, Howell and Figueiredo set a school record beating the previous time by a whole two seconds.

The time places the group with the 5th fastest time in Division II.

Day three is slated to get underway on Saturday with the prelims at 11:00 a.m, and the final heats at 6:00 p.m. Each team only receives points for the A & B finals.
