INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Carson-Newman swimming had another successful night at the pool adding to the Honorable Mention All-American list and producing a top-five women's 200 Free relay team for the third year in a row.
Competing in the 200 Free Relay 'A' Final was the team of Lisa Postma, Elly Culp, Laurel Sankowski and Mary Northcutt. The team finished fifth in the nation with a time of 1:32.46 claiming not only a new school record in the event but earning them the All-American honor as well. This marks the third year in a row the 200 Free relay team has made the top five.
"The women taking fifth in the 200 Freestyle relay continues to show the depth and strength of our program," Coach Jordan Taylor said. "We've been in the top five the last three years on that relay showing that we don't just have one or two strong athletes, but we can put together some very strong relays."
Postma and Culp are the two seniors in the relay team and were happy to finish on a high note.
"It feels really good to accomplish it three times in a row," Senior Lisa Postma said. "We've worked really hard this season so I'm glad that it showed at Nationals where it all matters. It's the fastest relay, you have to quick and do everything perfectly in order to get a perfect time. So, in the prelims, if we were half a second or a second slower we wouldn't have made it to the 'A' final. So it's very important that we all do our best and have a good race at the same time."
On the men's side, a 12thplace finish at 1:21.28 earned the four Eagles Honorable Mention All-Americans. The 200 Free Relay team consisted of Jonathan Goss, Seth Hughes, Nikola Tadic, and Chad Andoljsek.
The only other two individuals that made the finals were Caleb Howell and CJ Jensen. Both came in 16thplace in their events and both received Honorable Mention All-American honors for the second time this week. Howell's time was 4:06.54 and Jensen finished at 4:27.32.
