JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman's men's tennis team has earned a spot on the All-Academic Awards list for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2017-2018 academic year.

In addition to the team honor, six members also received ITA Scholar-Athlete status. The list includes graduated senior Kevin Mendes (Chattanooga, Tenn.), rising seniors Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Marc Bantel (Urbach, Germany) and Jesus Bacete Sanz (Madrid, Spain), rising junior Joseph Stiles (New Oxford, Pa.) and rising sophomore Daniel Cox (Chattanooga, Tenn.).

This marks the first time since the 2008-2009 academic year the men have achieved the team award, and the first time since 2016 the individual award has been given to a member of the Carson-Newman tennis team.

Requirements for the team award are a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Players earning the scholar-athlete status must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
