JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's tennis are on the road once again heading to Clarksville, Tennessee to take on the Austin Peay Governors on Saturday.
The Governors are 1-5 on the season so far with their one win being at home against Cumberland. One of their losses was against University of Tennessee Chattanooga who the Eagles will face on the 23rd.
This will be the second of four away matches in a row for the Eagles. They played a tough match against Lee on Thursday, falling to the Flames 5-2 despite wins by junior Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan). Oka is looking to remain undefeated going into the contest against Austin Peay, he's 3-0 in singles competition in his debut season with the Eagles.
This will be the first time the C-N has ever faced Austin Peay on the tennis court and coach Jim Frederick says a harder schedule is what he plans on organizing from now on for the Eagles.
"I think they realize that we're going to play this kind of schedule," Frederick said. "I think having played the Citadel will help us against Austin Peay. Not having ever played them isn't an issue, it's just going out, playing hard, and we'll see what happens."
The Eagles' mindset for the season is to simply focus on competing as well as they can, maintain a positive attitude and control what they can control. Coach Frederick was pleased with the level of play he saw from the men against Lee and even the Flames' head coach commented on the difference he saw in their play from last year.
