Upcoming weekend holds two home matches for the Eagles

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's tennis team prepares for two back to back home matches against No. 21 Queens and Newberry Saturday and Sunday on their home courts at Mossy Creek.

After a tough loss to rival Lincoln Memorial, the Eagles are looking to bounce back and get into some sort of rhythm this weekend.

Opening with Queens on Saturday, the Eagles have stout competition ahead of them. 5-2 overall, the Royals are undefeated in conference play so far and are 2-0 after taking down Mars Hill and Lenoir Rhyne. The only losses for the Royals came from No. 23 Georgia College and No. 2 Columbus State who won the program's first National Championship last season against Barry.

Almost half of the returning players on Queens' roster were named to either first or second team All-Conference last season in singles, doubles, or both. Additionally, redshirt sophomore Paolo Bompieri was named South Atlantic Conference freshman of the year after the 2017 season.

Moving on to Newberry, the Eagles will face the Wolves on Sunday. They are 6-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play heading into the contest. Only having three returning players, the Wolves are a young team with five freshmen. However, all three of the upperclassmen made preseason All-Conference. Junior Edison Ambarzumjan made first team singles, and senior Jose Navarro made second team singles. The duo of Navarro and Sean Nguyen also earned second-team doubles.

The Eagles begin on Saturday against Queens at 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 1 p.m. For more information, results and updates check back on cneagles.com.
