Eagles drop match against No. 21 Queens at home

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's men's tennis team falls 7-0 to No. 21 Queens at Mossy Creek Saturday in first of two home matches for the weekend. 

"The boys played better in doubles and singles today but just couldn't win a match." Coach Jim Frederick said. 

The Royals are ranked No. 21 Nationally and No. 6 in the region like the women's team. Additionally, junior Julian Bosch is ranked No. 13 in the region. 

Beginning the day with doubles, Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Jesus Bacete-Sanz (Madrid, Spain) were defeated by Paolo Bompieri and Joel Dunlap of the Royals 6-2 at No. 1. Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan) and Hernan Toledo teamed up to take on Bosch and Augustin Aran Martin. The duo fell 6-3 in the contest at No. 2 doubles. Round out the first trio of matches of the day was Joseph Stiles (New Oxford, Penn.) and Victor Ireno (Sau Paulo, Brazil) at No. 3. The two fell short against Sebastian Meum and Kasper Rolfsen 6-4. 

Moving into singles play, Dabdab took nationally ranked Bosch a good run for his money taking the match into a third set tiebreaker at No. 1. Dabdab took the first set 6-2 but Bosch came back in the second and won it 6-3. The two juniors took the third set into a tiebreaker and the Royals once again prevailed. Bosch won the tiebreaker 10-3 ultimately defeating Dabdab. 

Oka fought hard at No. 2 in his first set against Aran only narrowly losing it 7-5 but couldn't put up any sort of fight in the second set and lost it 6-0. Toledo was defeated by Bompieri 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, Bantel fell to Degardin 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, Bacete dropped his match to Dunlap 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Stiles rounded out the lineup for the Eagles at No. 6 falling to Meum 6-1, 6-2.
