Eagles drop match against Pioneers

GREENEVILL, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's tennis is shutout by the Pioneers 7-0 in Greeneville, Tenn. on Wednesday.

"I was disappointed in the way we started doubles," Coach Jim Frederick said. "Jesus and Dabdab had good, competitive matches but unfortunately we weren't close in anything else."

After doubles the Eagles found themselves behind 1-0. At No. 1, Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan) put forth a solid effort against Gabriel Yaguar and Time Klee but fell 7-5. At No. 2, Hernan Toledo (Santiago, Chile) and Jesus Bacete (Madrid, Spain) dropped their match against Yago Fernandez and Jacco Mensinga 6-3.

In singles competition, the only ones who came close and took their matches to three sets were Bacete and Marc Bantel. At No. 5, Bacete lost the first set 7-5 but came back and won the second in a very close tiebreaker 6-5 (7-5). Ultimately, he lost the match after dropping the third 6-4 to Yaguar. Bantel won his first set handily 6-2 but lost the second 6-2. He played a ten-point tiebreaker and lost it 10-6 at No. 4 singles to Marco Meon.
