Eagles set to take on Mars Hill at Mossy Creek

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Trying to break free from quite the losing streak, Carson-Newman men's tennis prepares to host the Mars Hill Lions on Wednesday at Mossy Creek.

"We still have some kinks to work out in doubles," Coach Jim Frederick said. "But we're glad to be back at home."

The Eagles (1-13, 0-5 SAC) have edged the Lions in contests by one going 5-4 overall since 2010 and hope to earn their first South Atlantic Conference win this season after suffering a shutout loss against Coker Saturday. Both C-N and Mars Hill (6-10, 0-5 SAC) sit at the bottom of the Conference standings as the only two teams without SAC wins this season.

At the beginning of the season, third-year head coach Bill Kreger's team was predicted to finish at 11th in the conference's preseason coaches' poll after a 2017-18 campaign that saw the team go 4-15 overall with a 0-10 SAC record.

The Mountain Lions hold the second-longest losing streak in the league with four consecutive, all of those being SAC matchups. Their most recent loss came on Friday in a 5-2 loss against Coker.

This will mark the tenth meeting between the Mountain Lions and Eagles since the start of the decade. The Eagles hold a slight 5-4 lead in the series after coming out on top against Mars Hill in the 2017-18 season 5-4.

Wednesday's conference match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.
