Eagles fall in senior day competition to Lenoir-Rhyne

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman was unable to get a win against Lenoir-Rhyne as they fell 7-0 on senior day at Mossy Creek.

In doubles action, the men fell three up three down as Jesus Bacete-Sanz (Madrid, Spain) and Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan) fell at the No. 1 position to Shane O'Dea and Mauricio Hernandez 6-1. The No. 2 and No. 3 positions had matching scores where Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Hernan Toledo (Santiago, Chile) fell to Paul Lenz and Rhodri Atkinson 6-3 and Joseph Stiles (New Oxford, PA) and Victor Ireno (Sau Paulo, Brazil) dropped their match to Alex Ayguavives and Lewis Scott. 

Going into singles play down 1-0, Marc Bantel (Urbach, Germany), Dabdab and Stiles were the first to compete for the Eagles. Bantel fell at No. 4 to O'Dea 6-3, 6-0 and Stiles finished shortly after at No. 6 falling to Scott 6-1, 6-0. Dabdab's five-match winning streak was cut short as he fought his way into a tiebreaker for the first set but ultimately fell to Atkinson 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 at No. 2.

Oka went up against Lazenby and could not manage more than four games per set as he fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Toledo battled in his first set against Tales Miranda and was able to keep the first set close, but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-2.

The Eagles will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in their non-conference match against Spartanburg Methodist once again at Mossy Creek.
